Leaving on a Jet Plane!
Chris’ wedding was lovely. The Arches who performed at his reception did a great job. Then, Chris got up and actually did a round-off backhandspring, to the cheers of the crowd.
We meet at the airport tomorrow at 7:30 AM to start on this amazing journey. There are 11 youth circus performers---Keaton, Kellin, Elliana, Rianna, Shaina, Matt, Renaldo, Deon, Michel, Iking and Lemond; two chaperones--- Rianna’s father, Dan Glazier, and Iking’s mentor, Diane Rankin Miller; two teaching artists--- myself and Michael Hagerstrom; plus three documentarians--- Alexandra, who is making her own documentary about children in the circus, Richard, who is an old sailing counselor of mine who felt the story of this expedition needed to be told and Howard, Richard’s old college roommate who has documentary experience.
We have many people to thank for supporting this mission: Circus Remedy, St. Louis Regional Arts Commission, Staenberg Family Foundation, Partnership 2000, Cirque Du Soleil, Cate Ponder, Bob Knipfer, Mary Strauss, Mike Killian, Jessica Mullins, Karen Schellin, Central Reform Congregation and many more. We could not be going over there, if we did not have so much support from so many people over here. Thank you, everyone!
The hardest part for these kids will be sitting still for 10 and half hours. You can see them very much not sitting still on You Tube at:

Hopefully, our next blog will be from the road (or the skyways)!
